On the band side, I had an interesting conversation with a new L.A. Lyon supporter. “The things you must see from the stage!” she said.
The comment made me smile. Yes, the view from the stage has been an interesting one over the years. Here are some observations:
- The Fighters - Yes we have seen a ton of them. Some a lot better than the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight. The rule is, you continue to play because if you stop it draws more attention to the violence. The interesting thing is security is always slow to break up two ladies fighting. Just saying….
- The Bringing Sexy Back Bunch - The expression, “Get a room!” could be applied to several couples we have observed over the years. I even got to watch a horrified D-Man on a very crowded dance floor get molested by some girl who did not know that the guy she was dancing with happened to be the Girl In The Band’s boyfriend. Again, the show must go on!
- The People who make us feel like rock stars- No, we didn’t write any of the songs we do, but it still is fun for us when you sing along and go crazy when we play YOUR jam. There is nothing like looking out at a group of people totally enjoying their Saturday night and know that you are part of the reason they are having such a good time!
- The Warriors- I have seen people on the dance floor with canes, crutches and even wheelchairs. A couple of weeks ago, a regular at one of the clubs we play at passed away and we were playing the night of her memorial service. Her longtime boyfriend came after the services and danced to their favorite song because it made him feel like a part of her was still there with him. These are the people who refuse to give up on life, regardless of physical or emotional obstacles. They just keep dancing. And that is the best lesson I have learned from my view of the stage.
